Monday Morning Pre-Circus Class with Slater – Tai Chi with Bob

Pre Circus KidsBeginning Monday, May 10th your circus star can take Pre-Circus class with Slater on the circus floor while you are taking Tai Chi with Bob in the Studio.

If you have never taken a Tai Chi class and have always wondered if you could (or should) you can now in the safety of our studio. Tai Chi is a slow movement exercise with roots in ancient Asia and teaches you to relax, unwind and move – slowly. If taking Tai Chi while your child is taking Pre-Circus, you get a 10% discount on the class package. You don’t need to have a child enrolled in Slater’s class to take Tai Chi, however. Everyone is welcome. FIRST CLASS IS FREE – YOU MIGHT AS WELL TRY IT!

Students Off to Circus Smirkus

Jessica at Art and Soul

Although we do not expect every child to grow up and run away to the circus, some of them do. Congratulations to Frances Tiffin, Leah Samelson and Jessica Rodinsky who are all off in June to perform in Circus Smirkus’ 2010 Big Top Tour (www.smirkus.org).

For Frances Tiffin, this will be her third and last summer with the intense touring company (70 shows in seven weeks throughout New England). Leah Samelson is spending her second summer in the program. Jessica Rodinsky is a first-timer. Each of the girls have trained long and hard to both audition for and get accepted into this prestigious program. We’d like to think we had a little bit to do with it as they are students of Kinetic Arts Center but we know it is only due to the girls’ commitment, discipline and sacrifice to training that got them into the competitive Circus Smirkus. We will keep you posted about their progress throughout the summer. Frances at

Smirkus

Another Student is Circus College-Bound – Off to École de cirque de Québec!

Frances Static TrapezeUnlike Leah and Jessica, Frances Tiffin doesn’t come home at the end of the summer with Circus Smirkus. Frances has been accepted into the world-renowned circus training school École de cirque de Québec (www.ecoledecirque.com).

Frances applied and was accepted to over eight universities around the country in addition to auditioning at École de cirque de Québec. This is her college choice and we support her desire to pursue her circus passion but Quebec City is a long way away – we will miss her,” says her dad Steven. So will Kinetic Arts Center. Good luck Frances.

New Youth Circus Arts Programming

New Youth Circus Arts Programming

Many of you asked that we divide children’s classes into more targeted age groups and increase the level of teaching in specific circus skills. To meet this demand, Kinetic Arts Center has implemented a new Youth Circus Arts program. We think you will like the changes we’ve made.

The most obvious changes will be to the Circus Kids classes. What was once a general two-hour mixed age class will now be structured to look like this:

  • Circus Kids 1 (ages 5 – 6; grades K – 1st) 55 minutes of instruction,
  • Circus Kids 2 (ages 7 – 8; grades 2nd – 3rd) 55 minutes of instruction,
  • Circus Kids 3 (ages 9 – 11; grades 4th – 5th) 1.5 hours of instruction.

Generally, weekday classes begin at 4pm (Wednesdays 3:30pm) and Saturday classes Circus Kids 1 & 2 start earlier at 10am and Circus Kids 3 begins at 11:00am. Keep checking the schedule as you become used to the time changes.

Children over the ages of 10 – 11 years are generally taking more specialized circus classes like Trapeze, Rope and Tissue, Acrobatics or Contortion. Often it is at this age children ask to join Circus Spire – Kinetic Arts Center’s Youth Performance Troupe. Look for more of these specialized classes to come on line throughout the summer.

Each of our Youth Circus Arts program classes will follow a similar structure based on age appropriate exercises and repeated rituals of physical learning. Furthermore, the classes will dedicate more time and energy to appropriate circus arts skills on all the apparatus as well as traditional circus acrobatics and ground acts.

If your children’s classes are affected by this change and you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at Info@KineticArtsCenter.com or call us at 510-444-4800.
