Kinetic Arts Center voted BEST OF THE EAST BAY!

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Diablo Magazine

Kinetic Arts Center wins Diablo magazine’s Best of the East Bay award for “Creative Fitness Classes” for own Cirq It™. ‘

What is Cirq It?  We say it’s kind of like Boot Camp gone to the Circus.  Says Diablo magazine, “Their Cirq It class will have you hand standing, gripping a trapeze, and hanging suspended from the ceiling by pieces of cloth.  You’ll work muscles you didn’t know you had . . ..”  In Cirq It, you get to run away to the circus for about an hour, get a great workout and leave smiling.  Celebrate with us by taking a Cirq It™.    If you haven’t used your free class yet, use it on this one.

“Anyone can take Cirq It.  You don’t have to be an experienced boot camp, circuit trainer or circus performer.  Everyone can learn how to balance on a rolla bolla, juggle or swing on a trapeze for two minutes at a time.  I designed the class so you are so busy learning a new circus skill that you forget you are building cardio and muscle strength the whole time,” says Jaron Hollander, Artistic Director and creator of Cirq It™.  “Don’t get me wrong — it’s hard work.  I will push you but it’s also really, really fun.  I’ve had students who laugh and giggle through the whole class.”

Bill on TrapezeClasses run Wednesdays at 10am and 3:30pm and Saturdays at 9am. An added bonus is that each class runs simultaneously with a popular Circus Kids class – for those of you with children.  “We have heard requests from parents to have classes running in parallel with their children’s class,” explains Victoria Angello, Managing Director and partner with Hollander.  “Scheduling Cirq Itparallel to circus classes for younger kids is trying to meet that need. Actually, we have several classes throughout the week scheduled like that.   By the way, I am one of those who giggle through the class.  It cracks me up to do pull ups buried in the tissue or hoola hoop to get my cardio up.  I am up to 40 hoops without stopping now.”

Oaklavia – Oakland’s Bike/Walk Day

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Oaklavia – Sunday June 27, 2010.

Bikes at OaklaviaThe streets at West Grand and Broadway started closing to street traffic as early as 6am.  By 10am streets from Bakesale Betty (W. Grand & Broadway) along Broadway, Telegraph and west on 7th all the way down to Kinetic Arts Center were all closed up tight to car traffic and wide open to foot, roller skates, bikes and anything else non-motorized.  It was a fabulous event produced by WalkOaklandBikeOakland and we couldn’t have been more pleased to participate.

Kinetic Arts Center was the designated END of the route (if you started at Bakesale Betty) contributed to the event with FREE performances and class workshops to all the folks who rode the entire length of the trip.  Although we heard about great places to stop along the way from many different riders, we are little partial to thinking our spot was the best.

Oaklavia - Lea on TrapezeWe had running every ½ hour performances by Circus Spire Troupe members and then we invited anyone there to play with us on the trapeze, rope, tissue, stilts, rola bolas.  It was heartwarming to see all the bikes parked on portable racks, grouped in clumps or just lying on the ground throughout the parking lot.

Our next big event this summer is Sunday, July 4th at Jack London Square from 12Noon to 4pm.  In August you will see us at Art & Soul.  We usually run special sales to honor each event.  If you are thinking to buy a package for a class you haven’t tried yet, we recommend stopping by to take advantage of whatever discounts we are offering.
