Every Fall since 2022, a select group of youth circus students from West Oakland’s Kinetic Arts Center and Prescott Circus Theatre come together to share their considerable skills, create and perform a circus show.
Over the course of the weekend, these young artists get to know each other, collaborate on show concepts and rehearse new acts tirelessly over pizza, orange slices, and popcorn. In the end, they have produced a full-length, free circus show to share with family and friends.
This is the West Oakland Youth Circus Collaboration. The WOYCC is building methods for circus and performing arts programs to facilitate and expand understanding, belonging, and skill building among youth from different backgrounds – exercising and building our shared capacity to live, love, create, and thrive in a multicultural world.
